Free Ontario G1 practice test
Practise for the Ontario G1 written test with original road sign and rules-of-the-road questions, based on the current MTO Driver's Handbook. Two sections, 16 of 20 to pass each.
About the Ontario G1 knowledge test
The G1 knowledge test is your first step to a full Ontario licence. You need to be at least 16, pass a vision test, and pass this written test on road signs and the rules of the road.
- The test has 40 multiple-choice questions: 20 on road signs and 20 on rules of the road.
- You must get at least 16 of 20 (80%) in each section. A great score on one section can't make up for the other.
- Bring two pieces of ID and the test fee, plus your glasses if you need them to drive.
- Know your numbers: G1 rules, demerit points, alcohol limits, parking distances, school bus and emergency vehicle rules.
These are independent practice questions written by Canam Fleet Safety Group. They are not the official test and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, ServiceOntario or DriveTest. Rules change, so always check the current official MTO handbooks and the Highway Traffic Act. Last reviewed October 2026.
